Overcoats

Another remarkable piece from the Kurtz Archive that has now been passed to another British vintage archive.

This amazing overcoat dates to the ‘teens or 1920s, and is made of sheep hide lined with heavy wool. Very similar to WWI era jackets favoured by aviators of the Royal Flying Corps, though this one has no chest map pocket. On balance, probably designed and marketed as a motoring jacket. This one’s seen some life!

I love the patina. I really liked the “storm cuffs” and the arm liner material is gloriously typical of its age.

Winter’s coming, and there’s nothing quite like a bold plaid to brighten the mood on those cold snowy days.

A blanket cloth double breasted Mackinaw-style jacket from the 1930s or 1940s is a perfect addition to a vintage wardrobe, though good luck finding one! These were once very common, and typically made in this very heavy woolen cloth. Sear’s and other catalogues fro the 1930s and 40s always feature this kind of jacket for winter wear. The plaid on this one is an exceptionally loud example. Not just for kids, either – this one is very much adult sized. Features a fixed rear half-belt with pleats above, and a removable button-on belt with heavy metal buckle fastening. There are waist-level handwarmer pockets, and hip-level flapped pockets. The lapel buttons up for those very cold days. Beautiful original plaid brushed cotton liner.
